Long-running Sherman Oaks attraction Boney Island is moving to Griffith Park and can be found right next to the Ghost Train this year. Featuring animatronic skeletons, water and light shows, and a closet-full of skeleton puns, the event is open October and 25-31, from 6 to 10 p.m. For a more highbrow Halloween experience, try Wicked Lit, a theatrical event performed annually in an Altadena mausoleum. Audiences will be led through the venue as actors perform a pair of plays themed around the supernatural. Tickets for the 75-minute event run between $30 and $45.

Spooky Hollows

Orange County’s other theme park is at its best during the Halloween season, when zombies and ghouls roam the grounds and guests can enjoy a host of themed attractions. Zombie Joe’s in North Hollywood is among those Los Angeles haunted houses for adults that don’t hold back on the immersive horror front. Its past installments have found attendees stealthing their way through a Victorian home and embarking on a Blade Runner-esque bounty hunt.

You can also float between rooms of the mansion, and even get a peek behind the scenes with a VIP ticket. Universal Studios opens its spooky attractions at 7 p.m. During the Halloween season. Many of the park's horror mazes are based on popular movies and television shows like Stranger Things, The Walking Dead, and the Poltergeist and Halloween franchises. The Queen Mary's haunted mazes have a leg up on the competition given that the ocean liner may actually be haunted. At least, that's the reputation management likes to play up, providing tours themed around the vessel's unusually macabre history all year round.

The haunted Urban Death Maze is known for full nudity, impressive gore, intense audiovisual effects, fantastic performance, and cutting-edge theater. If you are looking to be thoroughly scared, Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Hollywood is one of Los Angeles’s favorite annual haunted experiences. The festivities are set amongst the foothills and neighborhood of Midnight Falls and spread throughout Griffith Park to Midnight Falls Town Square right in the city. Another home haunt, this ambitious production has been going strong in Burbank since 2003. This year’s attraction is called Killpetto’s Toy Shop.

Did someone say Haunted House? What goes on at theme parks in Los Angeles for Halloween is nothing like the wholesome thrill of a Tigger-clad child ringing doorbells for candy. How to know which haunts are best for which ages? We've braved a few of them to share our reviews of just how scary is scary. Throughout the fall, the farm becomes an entirely transformed theme park with haunted mazes and attractions, unique and terrifying live performances, and 1000+ creatures waiting for you in the trees.

Far from those kid-friendly rides through a pumpkin patch, this hayride unleashes all sorts of demons and bogeys on Griffith Park. Like so many pop culture horror experiences recently, this year’s Haunted Hayride once again rewinds the action to the mid-’80s in the ficticious town of Midnight Falls. This backyard maze in Burbank has been going strong since 2003 and costs nothing to enter. The attraction will be open Saturdays and Sundays starting October 12 and Halloween night from 7 and 10 p.m. Be sure to watch out for SharkMan in this maze experience that should take guests roughly 5 minutes to get through.

Tickets for the themed mazes start at $20. For those looking for some fun, controlled terror this Halloween, we've mapped some of the best haunted attractions across Los Angeles. Some have high production values (and high ticket prices); others are homemade and completely free. All are scary in their own ways. Each year, they take on a new, multisensory theme– all equally terrifying. Since it’s rare to find a haunted house in Los Angeles where they can touch you, this is a unique experience where you’ll be fully and physically immersed.

It will be open to visitors October 20, 21, 27, 28, and 31 from 7 to 10 p.m. Admission is free, but donations will be collected for Volunteers of the Burbank Animal Shelter. This is the family-friendly, “spooky” version of the annual Halloween festivities at Knott’s Berry Farm.

If you’re in the Santa Clarita area and are a fan of all things haunted, you may be familiar with The Darm Realm, Restless Souls Manor, and The Farm, all iconic home haunts in the area for several years in their own rights. Spirits of the undead leftover from a gruesome past populate the century-and-a-half-old mansion turned haunted museum. You can fully explore the manor for as long as you can stand it before and after the show. Zombie Joe’s Underground Theatre Group hosts a chilling series of vignettes. Apocalypse natural or war.

Set of halloween black castle with yellow windows. The popular Griffith Park Ghost Train is back in 2018, offering rides weekend nights starting October 13, as well as October 30 and October 31. The ride probably won’t scare adults much, but it offers a fun way to get into the Halloween spirit for those with younger children in tow. This outdoor home haunt features impressive costumes and figures, various themes and characters, and many more scares as the path leads guests through the outdoor series of yard haunts.
